Yes, But What Does It Mean?

Whoa, I totally flaked on getting together with [livejournal.com profile] peaseblossom and [livejournal.com profile] jeffwik to talk PTA game. As penance, I banged this out:

If this is anybody but David Kaufman, Spike Jonze, Wes or Paul Thomas Anderson, you're stealing my bit.

I forgot all about the vague plan of meeting! Whoopsy.

[identity profile] robotnik.livejournal.com 2004-11-18 07:32 am (UTC)(link)
No worries. It was much more "vague" than "plan".

OM. FG.

I am stunned. And happy! For look at what happened to me last night. I must brainstorm a charactera concepto.

Who is that woman?

[identity profile] mgrasso.livejournal.com 2004-11-18 06:03 am (UTC)(link)
The lovely and talented Maggie Gyllenhaal, I believe.

Btw, [livejournal.com profile] robotnik, I hashed out a character concept in my LJ. If you feel like giving it the old imprimatur.

[identity profile] jeregenest.livejournal.com 2004-11-18 06:37 am (UTC)(link)
Weird, because when I originally saw that photo I thought it was my sister, and normally she looks nothing like Maggie Gyllenhaal.

[identity profile] robotnik.livejournal.com 2004-11-18 06:48 am (UTC)(link)
I actually think she looks a little like Jess in that picture.

[identity profile] peaseblossom.livejournal.com 2004-11-18 06:58 am (UTC)(link)
*sniff* That's the nicest thing anyone's ever said about me.

Course, it's probably the meanest thing anyone's ever said about Maggie Gyllenhaal.

Also, that is a fucking awesome poster.

[identity profile] jeregenest.livejournal.com 2004-11-18 09:04 am (UTC)(link)
I just don't want to contemplate the thought that I thought it was my sister and someone else thought it looked like Jess. Scary!

Strange Feelings

[identity profile] wordwolf.livejournal.com 2004-11-18 08:22 am (UTC)(link)
I don't know what any of this is about, but I really like it. . .

And it was good not to show this to too many people. NOt because it's nerdy, but because it's a great pitch. It's a script screaming to be written.

Thanks!

It's a script screaming to be written.

Screaming to be written and then shoved in a drawer with my other unfinished screenplays? If the game goes well, maybe I will.

Rob,

Was there a campaign prospectus or "first mention" of the game anywhere? I want to add that to my DM Memories folder.

[identity profile] robotnik.livejournal.com 2004-11-18 12:07 pm (UTC)(link)
You're looking at it, I think.

I might have mentioned it in passing either right before or right after the night I pitched it to a handful of people at John Harvard's (11/3 I think). When I do something more concrete, you'll be the first to know.

[identity profile] mgrasso.livejournal.com 2004-11-18 12:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Cool! Just wanted to make sure my filter was complete. :)

[identity profile] mgrasso.livejournal.com 2004-11-18 12:28 pm (UTC)(link)
The thing I like best about this poster? The fact that Philip Seymour Hoffman is not on it, because he never is on the poster. :)

Jesus christ. You miss a week, you miss a lot around here.

So Mike gave me the dime tour of the game idea. My question: does Steven Soderberg count as one of the hip new wave directors you're vibing for this? if so, dibs on George Clooney.

So what I really wanna know is... is that one of your maps?

[identity profile] robotnik.livejournal.com 2004-11-18 05:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I drew it, but not back in the day. I drew it last night, using White Plume Mountain and Oasis of the White Palm as inspiration. Actually, drawing dungeon rooms was intensely nostalgic and soothing. There might be something to this idea of zen/existential gaming.
