1. Thank you all for the assorted woos and hoos and other forms of congratulations on finishing the dissertation. I am particularly delighted with [livejournal.com profile] krustukles' little tribute. "May your suede elbow patches always be frayed, your spectacles always lost, and "love you" always inscribed on the eyelids of your nubile admirers." Hee. The girl knows why I went into academia.

2. Mark your calendars! I get the robes and the funny hat on June 10th. On Friday June 11th, I'm having a party chez moi to celebrate. If you're reading this and in the vicinity of Boston (or likely to be on the 11th) you have just been invited. Details to follow.

3. Another milestone! L&I just got back from our green card interview. Our marriage has been deemed "not a sham" by the Bureau of Homeland Security! The interview was a breeze. They didn't even ask to see our careful selection of pictures spanning time (spot the movie reference). Though L did giggle just a bit when I was asked "Do you plan to commit espionage and/or genocide?" which earned us a fisheye from the interviewer.

4. Those of you clamoring for gaming: I can't make Age of Paranoia tonight (celebratory dinner for #3, above), but I am gung ho to get Starchildren, Battle Without Honor or Humanity, and/or other gaming going again. In fact I'd be up for an impromptu session of something this Friday (it is the fourth Friday of the month, after all) if anybody is around. I'll use the Ad Hoc Gamers list to send out feelers, so if you're interested in any of those games but not on the Ad Hoc list, or if YahooGroups has been derelict in forwarding you those emails, you should check it for messages over the next couple of days.

The INS obviously didn't get the carefully tailored tape recordings culled from our many sessions of Pantellos then.

The 11th sounds great, keep us in the loop. And will you two be back in Boston for Monday?

And Friday is probably doable. Matters what you have in mind.

Yes, we will be back from Amherst by Monday and aim to be at your barbecue. As for Friday, I'm not sure. I have a yen to revisit either Kill Puppies for Satan, Trollbabe, or InSpectres.

If by Amherst you mean Amherst, MA a bunch of us are gathering at Bub's BBQ in Sunderland Saturday afternoon while the womenfolk are at a wedding shower. You'd be more than welcome. And you'd get to witness/laugh derisively at my brother's new very very short haircut.

Mmmmmm Bubs. I do mean Amherst, MA - this weekend is L's college reunion. Rough idea when you're going to be there? It's unlikely I'll be able to escape the Class of '94 festivities but you never know.

Still waiting to hear back from Useless Brother (who had the gall to schedule his wedding the same day as [livejournal.com profile] princeofcairo would be at Space-Crime!) on the details, but I'd guess we'll be there about 1PM on Saturday.

If Friday is some kind of impromptu let's all drink to [livejournal.com profile] robotnik's shiny new degree / listen to music and talk about Starchildren, I will cancel all plans to be there.

... but that would work too.

I can't make this Friday, but I should be able to make it on the 11th to whatever is going on.

Friday the 11th is a party, not gaming. Do come. SOs and friends welcome too.

I won't know my Friday schedule until I hear back from the Good People at Pandemonium Games, but I'd love to drink to your new degree, if the timing works out!

How clever of you to plan your trip to correspond with my graduation. I will get you the relevant details; if Tyler doesn't chain you to the signing table all night, we would love to have you!

Does Tyler have a liquor license?

Nope. And last time I checked he had't done much planning for Ken's visit either.

I, for example, had tried to get him to hire Ken to write a Weird Boston piece and publish it as a chapbook. But I think the window on that is probably gone.

Congrats on yer non-shammy marriage!

"Though L did giggle just a bit when I was asked "Do you plan to commit espionage and/or genocide?" which earned us a fisheye from the interviewer."

I think a giggle's the natural reaction to such a question. They probably hassle the people who _don't_ giggle. It's all reverse psychology. See... well hell, _you're_ the doctor, what am I explaining this to _you_ for?

I'll miss the Boston PhD Party, but let me know when you're gonna be in Toronto, Tonto.

Will do. Think late June or early July.
