I've often thought that players are terribly fond of being "Pope for a Day." Their PCs come out on the balcony, and a crowd half a million strong cheer and go wild. They say something, then go back in.
I've sometimes had the urge to run (probably a one-shot) supers adventure where the PCs don't have limits on their powers, so the conflict all comes from personality. So there's Via, who can step anywhere in the world (or maybe universe) with a thought. The inevitable superstrong invulnerable flying brick. The Telepath. And so on. Where the "opposition" is really just there to provide opportunity for the PC's character flaws to manifest.
A short, really intense supers campaign could be lots of fun. Sort of like "What if the villains in Stormwatch's Change or Die storyline had not been idiots? Or the Squadron Supreme miniseries where they try to fix the world, but with more thoughtfulness as to the dangers of unintended consequences.
Whatever you're planning, it sounds like it'll be big fun!
