There was a brief shining moment whan I had a plan for an Eternal Campaign; each session would use a different system from the vast pile of games on my shelf which I have never actually run or played, but the characters would remain constant (in the Moorcock sense) throughout.
We did get one pretty good session of Adventure! out of it. The next game would have been Dying Earth, but the concept foundered on the amount of work it takes to conceptually translate characters between systems.
