Friends-list, Romans, Countrymen...
My dear, dear friends:
I have been offered andam probably going to accept (pending negotiation of salary details, etc., which is the reason this post is still Friends-only) have now accepted! a tenure track job at the University of Western Ontario, in London, Ontario.
This is wonderful news: it’s a great job at a great school, it’s tenure track, it’s a respected research university, I get to teach grad students, I get to develop one of the first programs in United States Studies in Canada, it means being in the same city as my sister and her family, and far closer to the rest of my family, and all my Toronto friends, than I’ve been in years.
This is terrible news: it means moving away from Boston, and so many of you!
More to come, no doubt, in person and on this LJ, about the decision and what it means, and what you all mean, to me. But, yeah. Big news.
Edit: One of the first U.S. Studies programsturns out University of Toronto has one too. Grumble, grumble, Torontonians think they're so great... :)

Congratulations!
"I get to develop the first Center for United States Studies in Canada"
Heh, I can see the course catalog now:
"What the fuck is WRONG with those people?" An Introduction to United States Studies.
Good luck!

Looks like we'll have to make more room in the basement; hope you don't get the spot near the leaky pipe.

Congratulations on a great job opportunity, but, le sigh. It'll suck not having you around.
But thanks to the miracles of computer technology and jet aviation, I'm sure this won't be the end of your participation in the Ephemeral Circus...
Any chance of you running 'Red Madness II: The Lemurian Candidate' before departing to the Great White North? ;)
Oh, and at least when those of us on the wrong side of the culture war are forced to become expats we'll have someplace to go!

Most people aren't aware of this but the United States of America were actually invented in London, Ontario by Silas Farquason back in 1771 using only apples, christianity and dash of gunpowder. It took a few years for the patent applications to go through.
Congratulations, Rob! That is double plus good!
Or, en francais, double plus bon!

Welcome home amigo (I can't begin to tell how happy I am that you and L are moving to Canada). I'll be waiting at your front door when you both arrive, bag o' dice in hand.

Rob! Ohmigod! I just read this message now. That's fan-tastic! Congratulations on the good (mixed with bad) news. I'm sure it's a bitter pill to swallow, leaving Boston after all this time. (And just as you were learning the names of the streets, too.) But for those of us on this side of the 49th this is, yes, big news all around.
